Define Earning Rule Milestones

Prerequisites

  • The applicable work package has been assigned the Earning Rules earned value technique (EVT). Longer duration work packages using the Bottoms Up assumption type often use this EVT to objectively measure completed work. For this EVT, you define the accomplishment milestones along with the weight for each milestone. When a milestone is completed, the weight is translated to a percent complete for the work package.

  1. Select Home > Earned Value in the Navigation Menu. The main EVMax window displays.
  2. Select your project from the Project dropdown in the Ribbon Menu.
  3. Expand the WBS hierarchy as needed to view the work packages.
  4. Select the work package row assigned the Earning Rules EVT in the top pane. This enables the Work Package tab in the bottom pane, Add/Edit tab window.
  5. Select the Status EVT tab. The Milestones window below the EV Technique dropdown displays.
  6. Click Add Milestone in the Ribbon Menu. This adds a Step row in the Milestones window with a default Name and Description.
  7. Edit the Name and Description for the milestone.
  8. Enter a Weight percent value. Notice the Weight column total at the bottom of the window increments.
  9. Repeat Steps 6 through 8 to define the remaining milestones. The Weight total should equal 100 when you have defined all of your milestones.

    Tip:

To delete a milestone, select the row, then click Remove Milestone in the Ribbon Menu.

  10. Click Save in the Ribbon Menu.
